Quiet Saturday

Well, Today I have a paper to write. 6-8 Pages on Open Theism (which, in my opinion is a totaly heresy) for Doctrines class. Brad, on the other hand, got to go with the youth group to an equine therapy place for children with disabilities. They're going to be working out there for the day, so it should be fun for them.

The career fair went ok. There wasn't a whole lot in the way of ministry stuff there, but I did learn a couple things. First, I don't think DTS is in my future. It just isn't feasible at the moment. I wouldn't be able to test out of much nor would I be able to do much of it online. So that means I have complete a lot of the degree on campus, and we're just not in a place where we can facilitate going to Dallas every day. I also talked to some of the school districts about what it would take to get certified and teach. Most of them said that i can teach in much needed areas (math and science) next year as long as I am able to enroll in an alternative certification program. So I might consider doing that. I do kind of feel like I shouldn't do that though because my degree is in ministry. I don't know, it kind of feels like a waste of my time to have gotten this ministry degree if I am just going to be a teacher. But I guess I'll just have to get over that and see what the Lord gives me in the next couple of months. Maybe a Church job will come along.

I'm slowly hearing back from a few people about the trip to Australia. We had a meeting on Thursday and I found out some info. First, they moved up the deposit deadline to December 1st because of air fares and visas. Second, we can't sign up until December 1st, so I have to go wait in line at 8:00 am to sign up for the trip. I hope I can get a spot, I'm sure I can because 1500 dollars is a lot of money I'm sure a lot of people won't have. Third, we'll be going into the Outback for 7 days to visit with the Aborigine tribes and work in their schools along the way.

I'm hoping to save up enough money that I can get a decent camera before I go to Australia (if I can go. Haha). I would love to get an entry-level dslr, but they're expensive. Even for the low end ones. So if that's not feasible, I at least want to get a better point and shoot. Mine is older now, and the technology has improved so much since I got it.

Well, I need to get started on my paper and get my day started!

It's another rainy day in Texas...

Today is another rainy day in TX. I do not remember it raining this much in the Fall. All four Falls that I have been here it rained a little, but not incessantly like this. Lots of the nearby rivers are so flooded it isn't funny. While we were in Shreveport last weekend we passed a park that was completely underwater. Only the tops of the trees were poking out of the water!

I've been running lately. I decided that I'm going to run the Student Foundation 5k this year. I'm not really sure why I decided that, but I did. So now i'm following through. I'm up to running two miles non-stop. This, for me, is quite the feat considering in high school (when, presumably, i was the most physically fit) I couldn't even run one mile non-stop. I'm feeling a little accomplished.

Aside from school, I've been knitting a scarf. I found a barely started scarf in a box my mom had sent me probably a year ago. I've been working on it. Maybe I'll give it away as a Christmas gift or something. The Career Fair is on Thursday. There isn't a whole lot for ministry majors, but there are some random places looking for people. Aflac will be there looking for agents to sell their insurance, some banks are looking for tellers. It kind of depresses me thinking that my first job out of college will just be something to pay off loans, not something I love to do or have studied to do. But you know, I guess that is life. Grad school is still a possibility. Dallas Theological Seminary will be at the Career fair, so I'm going to talk to an admissions rep and see what I can find out. The degree I'm looking at is a Masters in Theology (it's eqivalent to an MDiv). It's totally overkill for what I want to do, but it seems the most interesting to me. Unfortunatly it's a four year degree program and i don't think they have a lot of online stuff. So we'll see how the career fair goes.

I need to get going. I need to leave for class in fifteen minutes and I still have wet hair! :)

Fall!

So, since my mom made a comment on my latest blog, I feel I should not disappoint my one follower. Here's another update:

I'm trying to raise funds to go on a Mission Trip to Australia. I would leave the sunday after I graduate and not come back until June. So it's almost a month long. But we'll have so many opportunities and see so many cool things. We'll even have the opportunity to visit some aboriginal tribes!

Other than that it's just business as usual. I made some brownies from scratch for a pumpkin carving party that Married Student housing is having this evening. I hope they taste fine. I didn't have any baking cocoa so I used the "substitute" method and used oil and cocoa powder. The batter tasted a little bitter to me, but I'm planning on putting some frosting on them, so hopefully they won't be too yucky. :)

I'll have to post some pictures of our pumpkin later on tonight.

School...

So, I decided to try to make a come back. But I can't promise much.

School has been going well. I have a lot of fairly interesting classes this semester, which makes me happy. I'll be keeping pretty busy, but you know, that's what school is for.

This weekend we're not doing a whole lot... but that's ok. I need a low-key weekend every so often.

I'm sorry this is so short, but I've got some homework to get done so I can watch a movie tonight. :)

Wow... I have severly neglected my blogging...

Well, classes have been in session for two weeks now. We have tomorrow off because of MLK day. :)

So far, I have A LOT of reading. It's kind of lame, but at least it isn't difficult stuff.


We went bridesmaid dress shopping yesterday, and it was pretty much a bust. We're going to go to David's Bridal tomorrow afternoon to see if we have any better luck. Yesterday, while an adventure, was stressful, not profitable, and annoying. There is no reason I should be putting on a size 14 dress and have it not fit. Lame and a half. Also, it's hard to get three very different shaped girls to look good in a dress. I also managed to cut a corner a little too close and rip a piece of plastic off the car. Also lame. Overall, not a great day.

But I came home and baked Gordon a key lime pie. He bought the ingredients and I made it for him. It turned out ok. I just don't think I liked the recipe.

OH, and for your viewing pleasure. This is a car that Brad and I parked by at walmart this evening. I thought it was hilarious. You can't see it but, the paint job was intense. It's not that great of a picture, but notice the horn it has on the front end. Also, notice the ridiculous lift kit on it. Only in Longview.

Break so far...

Brad and I have pretty much been bumming around the past few days. On Saturday I went to work, graduation, and to a friend's wedding. It was a really nice wedding. They definitely put their personal touch to the ceremony, but it fit them perfectly. She came down the aisle to a song from Phantom of the opera. The reception was small, but nice. Sandwiches and cake and punch and such. It was a lot of fun. :) After the wedding Brad and I had a little Christmas celebration. I got him lots of little things, and he seemed to like them all. I got him a hat for the cold weather, the DVD of The Princess Bride, The Tales of Beetle Bard by JK Rowling (it just came out), a screw driver set, and some undershirts/boxers. The last was more of a joke because I made him throw out some of the nasty ones. Haha.Brad with the present to be opened. And there's the book and the hat I got him below.

I wasn't sure what Brad had gotten me. I was really surprised and really liked what he did get me...

Look closely, do you see the gift? It's a set of pearls! Real ones! It came with earrings, a necklace and a bracelet.

After opening gifts, we built a gingerbread house. I think it turned out nicely. Here's the Front finished:

And it even made it through the night! Surprisingly, it's still standing. I think it's a lovely little centerpiece for our little table. :)


Today, I'm going to finish up the Christmas gifts I made everyone and I'm going to finish up my Israel scrapbook. I'll probably put in a movie and just spread out all my stuff on the floor. Brad is going to go into work at 5 and won't be home until 9, so maybe that's when I'll do my pages.

Tomorrow is youth group, and instead of a lesson we're going to walmart to buy gifts for a family that had their house burn down recently. It should be a fun time. Brad is going to come this time too because he doesn't have anything else to do, and Jerod needs as many helpers as possible, especially when he's turning us loose in walmart. Haha. It's those middle school boys you have to watch out for...

Thursday morning we're planning on heading north. We're going to get up early, and leave by 8 and drive until we can't anymore. Hopefully we'll get a good 10 or 11 hours in. Maybe 12 if we don't get too grumpy. Brad's car doesn't have cruise control though, so he has to stop and stretch more often than if we had cruise. We just bought him a lumbar pillow, so hopefully it will help a little bit. It even has a massager in it... Plus I'll probably drive some of the way too. It can't be too hard, we just go until we get there. See y'all soon!

I finished finals. Woot! I spent the afternoon addressing Christmas cards. I'm missing a few addresses, but I'll get them soon enough. :) Hopefully I'll get them out tomorrow morning, or maybe this afternoon on my way to work.

Tonight we're having Matt and Gordon over for a celebratory dinner. I'm making Chicken, rolls, stuffing, an broccoli. Hopefully it won't taste like crap. Haha.

From here on out, it's just relaxing time until we leave for the Great White North. I'm working this afternoon, tomorrow afternoon, and Saturday morning. Brad is going to go to Graduation while i'm at work. Then we have a wedding to go to for one of my friends I work with. After that, Brad and I are exchanging Christmas gifts and building this Ginger Bread house thing we found at walmart. Hopefully it won't fall apart.

I'm gonna have to go shopping for Brad's gift tomorrow afternoon. I have no idea what to get him. He bought the movie earlier this week that I was going to get him. I'll just have to wander the store until I find something that he would like. I have a couple ideas, so that's good at least.
